Progress update and fresh photos of Washington DC's famous Cherry Blossoms on March 14, 2013.
Lots of school groups are starting to arrive now, so tour buses and school buses are lining up each day along the riverfront of West Potomac Park. There won't be much to see of the cherry blossoms this weekend--they're still doing their thing, but still have some growing to do before we start to see the first flowers peek through. But the weather forecast for the weekend is pretty miserable anyway, with even a small chance of a few snowflakes.
If you'd like to help support the care and upkeep of the cherry trees around the Tidal Basin, the Trust for The National Mall has launched an Endow a Cherry Tree Campaign. Donations go to the official Cherry Tree Endowment, which will give the National Park Service additional resources to fund the care, maintenance, and possible replacement of the cherry trees. You can find more information here.
The Trust is dedicated to marshaling private support for maintaining and improving the history National Mall area. I'm not affiliated with the Trust--just an admirer of their efforts.
