DC Cherry Blossoms in 2021
It seems increasingly likely that DC will still be under COVID-19 restrictions in spring 2021 while the cherry blossoms are blooming. So it's shaping up to be a good year to follow along from afar from the safety and comfort of your home.
Now that the overnight rain has cleared away, it’s shaping up to be a nice day.
Not many new members of the blooming club this morning, but the ones in the puffy white stage seem to be puffier and there are more of them.
If you have to choose between Saturday or Sunday this weekend, Saturday should have better yet cooler weather, while Sunday should be warmer and will give the flowers more time to appear.
You’ll find a few trees coming out over next to the FDR Memorial. The “Indicator Tree”, which has been out a week or so, is over to the northeast of the Jefferson Memorial. A good selection of Japanese Weeping Cherries and Tulip Magnolias are over by the George Mason Memorial. There are also some cherry blossoms coming out in a grove between the Tidal Basin and the Washington Monument. And if you’re up for a walk or ride, there are some beautiful patches of daffodils across the river along the waterfront of the George Washington Parkway between Memorial Bridge and the 14th Street Bridge (both bridges have pedestrian/bike paths and there’s a paved trail along the waterfront both sides of the river).
At this time of year, there are beautiful flowers to be had all over the place. Maybe in your backyard. Maybe in the local park.
These are ere are some of my favorite books that I've reviewed on taking photos of flowers:
